sick

Well, we almost made it through a whole year without being sick, without going to the doctor, without having to stay up all night with crying kids and high fevers . . . but it finally caught up to us.

Abby got it first, and the second she started feeling yucky I took her to the doctors to have a strep culture.  (We had been near people who had strep, so I just assumed that is what it was.)  Luckily the culture came back negative.  And we went home with tylenol and motrin.  The next day Emma got it.  My poor little girls were pretty bad.  Abby hasn't been sick in such a long time, not since before her tonsils and aednoids were taken out.  One night, while the rest of us were eating dinner she came in, lay on the floor, and said, "I think I'm going to die."
The next day, after I got the girls and Porter down for a nap, I disinfected the entire kitchen, and myself and started working on dinner I was taking a neighbor who had just had a baby.  Abby woke up just as I was finishing and I said to her, "go lay down on the couch until I'm done."  Instead, she lay down in the hall where she was and said, "Mom, you are not doing a very good job of taking care of me."
Well, the next day we got Barbie's Diamond Castle for the girls to watch, luckily it made up for my 'not doing a good job.'  The girls are both past their fevers.  Abby still has a stuffy nose, and Emma has a cough.  Travis and Tyler have started to feel it coming on, but then it went away (keeping my fingers crossed).  But, my little baby Porter is now sick.  I was so confident that I was keeping him away from the girls, and doing a good job of washing my hands and what-not, but nope.  He has it!  It is so sad, he's lost his voice, and so I can barely hear him cry.  And he has a little cough, which hurts so bad because whenever he coughs he cries even more.  I'm switching between motrin and tylenol, every three hours, but the congestion is what makes it so bad.  Last night I went to check on him, and he was just awake staring at the ceiling, who knows he might have been crying and I just couldn't hear from my room.
Well, I certainly cannot wait for this sickness to be over and to sleep through the night again.
On a side note, if your kid is sick, keep him/her home.  At Abby's gymnastics class the other day the teacher had her own little boy there laying on the mats with a bowl.  Towards the end of the class, she ran over and held his forehead while he threw up . . . then she went back to the class.  Needless to say, as soon as we got home, Abby had a nice long shower!

So sorry you're all sick. My heart goes out to that little Porter. It's not fair. I love all the cute things your kids say! Get well soon!

It is no fun when babies are sick, huh. Although I have to say, that mom took such good care of us when we were sick that I always kind of looked forward to it. John sucks at taking care of me when I'm sick though so it is no longer fun.

That is so sad that you can't even hear Porter cry. Poor guy. I hope the sickness makes a quick exit from your home. Get better soon.
